The Network Operational Data Dashboard (NODD) was designed to give easy access to a lot of information pertaining to a Grid Supply Point (GSP). The GSP is UK Power Networks’ boundary with transmission, and the super grid transformers themselves are owned by National Grid. The expansion intends to take this granularity to grid site transformers (or bulk supply points), 132 kV and 33kV circuit, and primary transformers.

This dataset shows key utilisation characteristics for data centres connected to UK Power Networks’ distribution network. It includes the maximum utilisations for each data centre, categorised by the voltage level of the data centre.

This dataset will show load profiles for data centres connected to UK Power Networks’ distribution network. It will be split by discrete characteristics (such as voltage level, season, etc.), providing a more granular view of the the standard profiles we already provide.

This dataset shows an anonymised list of live demand-only projects, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) within UK Power Networks’ licence areas, that are 5 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and above. This list has been determined using internal systems UK Power Networks uses to manage all projects in the process of connecting to our network. To protect the identity of the sites, entries have been anonymised and only the licence area, application date, and requested import capacity band have been provided.

This dashboard will provide various insights for operational and planned demand loads 5MW and above, that are connected/will connect to our distribution network. Insights will be split by load type and other discrete characteristics, and will enable new and existing large demand customers – as well as those interested in each demand type – to understand large demand behaviours of loads on our network.

Data and information provision serve as the foundation for fostering positive and productive relationships between stakeholders and the distribution network.

Working in coordination with the DNO, the DSO develops and shares datasets via our Open Data Portal. These datasets, which vary in scope and granularity, empower innovation across a wide range of applications.

The following case studies showcase how some of our customers are already leveraging these datasets to drive their projects forward.

UK Power Networks has been using this dataset to provide customers with curtailment estimate assessments, modelling limitations associated with Directional Overcurrent (DOC) protection settings in transformers across the EPN and SPN licence areas. In parallel, the UK Power Networks DSO has launched a programme to commission load blinding relays at constraint locations currently limited by DOC settings, with the aim of unlocking additional generation capacity.

The dataset includes DOC settings for both grid and, where applicable, primary transformers, with limits expressed in both Amps and MVA. It also indicates whether a load blinding relay has been commissioned at each location, providing greater transparency on network constraints and potential capacity.

When using The Connections Lab to run a curtailment study on our network, the settings you select in your simulation are converted into a unique configuration identifier that can be shared to others to reproduce and replicate what you did.

Additionally, this feature has brought with it a dramatic enhancement to the versioning of data used in the app. If newer data has a material change on a previous study, loading from a configuration ID will highlight those changes to help explain the updates to your curtailment study as the connections queue and physical network evolve.

This dataset shows UK Power Networks’ view of the capacity of data centres in each Local Authority District we have existing or future (i.e., paid, accepted and committed) data centres. The list has been determined using internal systems UK Power Networks uses to manage connection projects, and the Office for National Statistics’ (ONS) Authoritative National Statistics Postcode Lookup (November 2019) for the UK.
